Handy dandy link! [ Personality ] :
Eiji is a good guy. This is drilled into your head over and over throughout the show. He's "selfless" -- which, while true in some respects, does not define his character. His mantra of just doing what he can for what's in reach -- if a person is in trouble, he will help them, but he cannot save the world -- shows this really. He is not 100% selfless, he is selfless when he needs to be, when it saves him the guilt. The guilt that plagues him every day and causes his smiles to be fake and his optimism to be stale.
He's empty inside. The reason for this? He was caught in the middle of a civil war. In fact, he might have been the cause of a civil war in which many many many were injured and/or killed. The son of a politician, he stumbled into territory he wasn't supposed to go and caused damage just by being there. Though, really, he was just there because he wanted to help. He helped as best as he could yet... being the son of a powerful man has it's disadvantages. He was escorted away -- "rescued" via helicopter while the others were left to die. He couldn't save them and it was his fault people died.
He's been hollow ever since. No wishes, no wants, no desires and in a world fueled by them, it's important to have some. He's empty which makes him the perfect vessel that changes into the hero who fights monsters created by desire, no? Ironic? Possibly. Sad? Definitely.
Despite that, the image he shows everyone is of one man who just does his best. Which is him! He is a guy who is trying his best, who will do what he can when he can do it, no matter what. A character in the show actually once realized how Eiji is the type who holds out his hand for everyone but nobody holds out a hand for him. Yet, he's not bitter because of it. Not angry or sad or anything negative. He just does his best, he saves who he can, he does what he can... he exists but doesn't live basically.
He smiles though. He is happy despite that, in an ... odd sort of way. He is satisfied by doing his best, and it keeps him happy. If he can help one person a day, maybe he is worth a bit more than nothing, y'know? He presents the image of a man who may not have it altogether but is content. A traveler who doesn't have a family (or is, at least, not in contact with them). A vagabond who never settles down, a man who is living his life for himself, a curious boy with a warm smile and heart.
Which! Again, he is that -- just... not. It's weird. He is two sides to the same coin and keeps himself heads up. It's either that or be drowned in his guilt and... selfishly, perhaps, he thinks it's worth it.
Nevertheless, he does have his moments of... stupidity, to put it simply. In his relationship with Ankh, most especially, he tends to disregard the other man's words continuously -- ignore his wants and likes and fears on his mission to help whoever. This shows Eiji's own faults, his own blindsided views. He views Ankh as a "bad person" -- as a person who is evil so therefore has no rights. This is not necessarily true, but because he rules Ankh off as bad, he disregards his feelings most of the time. It ends up with him sometimes being quite late on things or resolving issues with lingering resentment from Ankh. While it shouldn't matter, I think it's important to bring up because it may be a key thing that effects Eiji later on in the series.
Their relationship especially is an odd one. Both can trust each other to not trust the other, if you understand. It's a weird sort of relationship but it works for them. This also really shows Eiji's ability to be... honest, perhaps. He's most honest in the show with Ankh because of their silent promise to double cross each other. Eiji has said multiple times that he is using Ankh and Ankh is using him. He realizes this yet still continues on with helping Ankh -- who is a Greeed -- find medals to restore his body.
Yet... that's also a tricky situation since Eiji is realizing over the past few episodes (31-34) that maybe there is more to the medals -- to the whole situation that he is in than just collecting the medals. Yet, he continues to do so -- blindly -- because of his drive, of his need to help people to make him feel less guilty. That is where he is using Ankh. He is using his power to help people despite not knowing the consequences for using it. He views any consequences that happen to him -- to his body, to his mind -- as inconsequential because of the guilt he feels. It's a continuous cycle of trying to alleviate his guilt by saving people but then by saving people he cases more damage (in the form of the Greeed wanting to become stronger) and then it means he has to save more people again. Eiji is kind of addicted to saving people, a hero complex, but again, it's not because he's a good guy -- it's because he feels guilty for leaving the civil war and leaving the people to die when it was his fault it started.
See the pattern here? Good.
To summarize, Eiji is a good guy but he is also not. He's a hypocrite and selfish and even perhaps, blind to the feelings of people around him all because of his own selfish desire to help people. Yet it's such a hollow desire, one fueled by guilt that it isn't really a desire at all. He's just a man who puts on a facade every day to say he's happy when he's really dead inside. It's sad, but it's true. The only thing that keeps him going these days is the guilt inside of him.
[ Strengths/Weaknesses ] :
Strengths:
Hi I am a link! That link shows all the powers/abilities and such from his superhero outfit thing, OOO (pronounced ohz). Yet, other than turning into that to fight monsters, there's other things such as his ability to trust others easily -- though that could also be a weakness -- and his ability to say the right thing at the right time. Sometimes, even when his statements are off the wall silly (talking about life and death to someone, suddenly bringing up underwear) it still... somewhat helps out the person. Later on his metaphors are thought over again and appreciated for the message they give. It's a weird knack of his really.
... But mostly he is just a normal human guy.
Weaknesses: Explosions, mostly. He has a fear of them because of aforementioned civil war. Then all the normal human weaknesses such as the common cold to cuts and bruises. He's also weak, mentally, able to be taken over by mind controlling things. Which is especially important because inside of him there are five core medals for the
Dinosaur Greeed. When changed into OOO, he has a high risk of going out of control and beginning to kill/destroy everything he sees if he doesn't control it. While still a fairly new piece of information in canon, as told by recent episodes he will learn to control it, perhaps? It's possible, at least. Though I suspect his weak state of mind is a large plot point there.
Oh, and there's also the fact that he is completely and utterly horrible at detecting social cues involving romance. He is just completely dreadful at it and it is one of the things he's made fun of for in canon.

Ah... where am I? [The voice function of the SFC turns on to a confused voice of a young male. He sighs heavily as fiddles with the SFC, reading the buttons and deciding which are what.]
I suppose this is on now, is it? Uhm, excuse me but-- Oh, I should probably...
[And then on comes the video feed! A weak smile is given and he sighs before awkwardly clearing his throat and starting again.]
Excuse me but I need to get back home or at least find-- A friend of mine, he... uh, I can't leave him alone for too long. So, if anyone's seen a blonde haired man, possibly eating ice pops and sitting in high places, just... let me know.
... Oh! I'm Eiji Hino, by the way. It's nice to meet all of you!
