[ Personality ] :
Shinra can be described as spaztic. He talks very very fast and very very much but it's usually about nothing useful. His outside appearance is mostly of a lovesick doctor who wants to help people. And it's true! He IS a lovesick doctor who wants to help people but that's not all. He has a dark side to him, one that loves dissections and will do anything to keep Celty from finding her head--
Oh wait, should probably describe Celty first.
Shinra is in love with Celty. He has been ever since he met her at four years old on a boat traveling from England to Japan. The thing is, Celty is a dullahan who has lost her head. She's still a cute moe tsundere in Shinra's eyes. She's the cutest thing in the world and he just wants to hold her forever and keep her safe and run away and make a lovenest with her-- but he can't. The main thing stopping him is Celty herself -- she wants to find her head.
So, Shinra works silently in the background to keep her head from her. He knows where it is -- kind of -- and he knows why/how she lost it -- kind of. He's very very knowledgeable about the going-ons in Ikebukuro, not as much as Izaya of course, but enough. Mostly about Celty's head.
Why does he keep this from her? Well, it's simple. He's scared once she finds her head and regains her memories, he'll lose her. He'll lose her to her memories and she'll leave one day back to England and he'll be a sad, lonely, underground doctor.
So, he keeps it from her. He keeps that his dad -- Shingen -- severed her connection with her head with the cursed blade Saika. Yet, later on in the series -- in Episode 14 in fact, he does tell her this and his fears. She accepts him and their relationship grows. It's great, really.
Shinra loves Celty. Celty loves Shinra. That's how it goes. That's how it should be as far as Shinra is concerned.
Shinra grew up with Celty around as his father offered them to give her housing for allowing them to dissect her. Shinra also grew up in Ikebukuro and is friends with Shizuo and Izaya. Shizuo and Izaya are... like two opposite ends of the magnet. They just don't click. Shinra was normally caught up in their fights because of this, but he takes it in stride, actually finding amusement in the two.
In fact, he finds amusement in everything as long as it doesn't harm Celty.
Yet, despite loving Celty, Shinra doesn't always look out for her. Example A would be performing plastic surgery on a girl to make her look like Celty's head so Celty would give up looking for her head. That was kind of a douche move. Example B would be sending Celty out to pick up his father -- who she hates -- after hearing about her being chased by police officers all around Ikebukuro. Also kind of a douche move.
He's not a very social person though, always staying in their apartment unless for some reason he has to go out and do his doctoring duties. He stays in his labcoat 24/7 despite just being inside all the time also. He works in the background, just feeling content with taking no part in the grand scheme of things unless necessary. If it had to do with Celty, it has to do with him, even if he's not strong enough to protect her.
He's also very very fond of love proverbs and idioms, quoting them all the time to Celty.
[ Strengths/Weaknesses ] :
He's an underground doctor -- he knows how to remove bullet wounds and stitch up people. He's good at plastic surgery and a lot of other stuff too. He's a very good doctor when it comes down to it, but he just doesn't bother himself with a real clinic. He prefers to work in the background, remember?
Also, he can take a punch or two. Lol spousal abuse from Celty--
