[Where the impressive City Hall building and the sturdy police station would have stood in Mayfield, you see piles of rubble, the burnt out shells of buildings.
Some might remember, back in Westport, a rock that led to a hidden underground bunker, but this rock is nowhere to be found.
The streets around here are sealed off with high barricades made out of rubble and doors and household furniture, broken glass and barbed wire. The buildings in the area are riddled will bullet holes and burn marks.
The broken glass and deep potholes in the streets and the heavy barricades make it difficult to move in this area.]
[Somewhere in the rubble of the police station is a small, shoddy radio. If you turn it on, all you can hear is station, but occasionally you might just hear a beep and silence, as though it's attempting to transmit something.]
[Lucas is a smart kid. Memories of Westport flashed back to him immediately; memories, too, of the only type of communication they had with Mayfield way back then . . .
Although the memory of the hazmats is terrifying, he heads for the police station and the radio as soon as he can.]
The foundations of several shops are still standing, but their interiors are empty. Past these buildings is a large, completely bare lot, aside from the dark scorch marks in the ground outlining a large building. In Mayfield and Westport, a church stood in this spot. If you approach, a sense of foreboding will tell you to stay away from these grounds, but were you to ignore this feeling, you would find a perfectly ordinary lot.
Next to the church lot is a tall office building with the entrance boarded up. The walls are riddled with bullets. Should you be able to clear the entrance way, the building is an empty shell.]
DAY ONE -- see, I'm keeping chronology for me :|wristsniperMarch 7 2011, 05:45:24 UTC
[Olivier uncurls from an unwilling crouch, having suddenly been ambushed by a statue.
All around her lay the outline of what used to be the church. She's been here. She doesn't want to be here again.
In shocked silence, she stares around her, hands clenching into fists. What the hell have they done to her now? The feeling of terror and unease is overwhelming, bringing an added level of sickness to her gut.
The memories of Westport come flooding back, and she--dignified, somehow--flees this hideous burnt shell of a church as quickly as she can.]
[Garviel, already having grabbed a few people and banding them together for protection, will probably smell the Major General on the wind as he lopes through town. He will cross to her, and briefly bow a salute to her.]
"Major-General. We meet again. And on the battlefield, no less. Are you ready?"
[Here's grand ole downtown, now just a grand ole mess.
The stores are boarded up and locked from the inside, but even if you do manage to break a window and climb inside, you'll only find broken glass and the feeling that someone left in quite a hurry. There's no merchandise left - just a bunch of old empty buildings.
The streets here are clearer, cars still parked along the side of the street - keys sitting in the ignition.]

[Nearest to City Hall are three streets behind a high and fortified barricade. It wasn't easy to get around it, and you'll find the homes on the other side to be nearly the mess that City Hall was.
Empty, burnt shells of homes and cars line the road. Trash, rubble, and broken glass covers the ground. But as you walk farther away from the barricade, you reach homes that are still standing, if riddled with bullets. Most of these homes appear to have been ransacked, and in some cases, even the front doors have been stolen, but some homes appear in tact and almost pleasant.
If you go inside and look around, a few even have the place settings for dinner out, but the food is a decaying mess that appears to have been left there for months.
The walls in these homes are bare of any family photographs.]

[A war Zone. How utterly familiar to the Captain of the 10th.]
"No... not Istvaan. Where...."
[he looks around, moving through the streets, a hulk of a man with an almost comically small pistol in one hand. Well, comically small until you realize that's a fairly hefty pistol, Garviel is just 8 1/2 feet tall. He looks very grim, and very, very determined.]
[Still looking for people, Mokuren backs out of one of the more intact houses, with her hand over her mouth. Clearly she stumbled upon a long abandonned meal. If before she thought it might still be Mayfield, by now she's pretty sure it's not. Just where it is is a mystery to her.]
"Yes, there is, Mamzel." [he steps into the street, trying to look nonthreatening. This is an utter failure. He's 8 1/2 feet tall, genehanced for war, and even his craggy face looks stern, for the moment.]
THREE STREETSwestport_modsMarch 7 2011, 04:53:07 UTC
[Towards the center of town are three streets remaining mostly untouched. In fact, if it weren't for a pile-up of empty cars blocking off access to the roads, you might assume you were in an ideal 50s suburb, or at least back in Mayfield.
Inside, the homes on these streets are clean and tidy, but empty of any personal touches; they appear as though they were recently built and were never lived in.
In one of the homes on the first street, an outlet has been completely ripped out of the wall.]
[She thought she felt a touch on her back, and the next thing she knows she's here. The place is deserted, but that's not too forbodeing - things look pretty normal, except for the pile up at the end of the streets. She frowns, puzzled.]
What just happened?
[Didn't Mayfield JUST pull a trick like this on her a few days ago? This town, she swears. Guess there's nothing for it than to walk back home and to see if she still lives there. But since she's never been on this particular street before, it would help to ask for directions.]
[Ten empty houses later, Mokuren's starting to get REALLY worried.]
[The eleventh house won't be so empty. The main thing that saved them during Westport was keeping indoors, away from the hazmats and poison air. So, Vince will be checking out the houses to see which ones look the safest. The most defendable. When he hears her come in, he looks up a bit nervously.]

[What on earth was he doing back here? A second ago he'd been walking past one of those weird new statues and then... Then what? Was this a dream...?]
He-Hello? Is anyone else here?
[Hey, this place looks familiar. That's right, this is the police station... Is that a radio?]

. . . Is it still here? Have you tried it?
