I first saw The Fellowship of the Ring when it was released in December 2001. As a longtime Tolkien fan, I'd been sceptical - until I saw the trailer and then I was sold. I adored every moment of the film, and loved every actor equally.
Fast forward to 2002 and The Two Towers. Couldn't get to the theatre quickly enough, watched all the extras on the Extended FOTR DVD immediately after, and suddenly, I don't know how it happened, I fell madly in love with the kid playing Frodo. I dunno - maybe being laid off work at the same time contributed to the whole thing, but I had the freedom to play on the internet, discover fandom and LJ and just glory in the amazing creativity and spontaneous outpourings of affection for all things Fellowship and Elwood related.
And that led to travel, and new friends, and comfort in times of personal stress, and more laughter and squee than I can even begin to quantify. Really, I have a lot to thank Elijah for. Right now wish I could hug each and every one of
you.
I was thinking about
trianne and
alchemie this morning and wishing we were sitting at the Sidewalk Café in Venice Beach
again, feeling the sun on our faces, looking at the ocean, ogling the locals and drinking margaritas. And definitely toasting the birthday boy!
kiltsandlollies's last couple of posts reminded me that I loved loved loved this video so much that I bought the DVD.
He really is breaktakingly beautiful here.
