For those of you who missed my most recent entry...I lost Vinnie recently. My Adorable fluffbutt of a cat was very old, and her kidney's began failing. I had to take her to the vet to put her down.
So, my life hasn't really felt...full without a cat to worry about. I began cruising adoption websites, looking for a companion for myself.
Meet Houdini. Well, his Full name is Harry Blackstone Copperfield Dresden, but, his former owner, who he lost to the same thing I lost my Vinnie to. Old age. Called him Houdini, so I will probably keep calling him that. Or Boo. Which ever seems to fit him the best.
He's a snowshoe Siamese. His toes are perfectly white, his back legs as well. He's a great big thing at 16 pounds. 8 years old, and one sliced ear complete the package. I've been told his eyes are blue, but to me they're a stormy grey. He's really very beautiful.
He is very shy. Since Wednesday night his favorite spot to be was under the bed, hiding near the headboard. He doesn't like change. And by change, I mean anything that isn't exactly how it was a minute or two ago. Me standing up can be too much for him, so I try to move slowly around him. He doesn't like the ceiling fan, but, that's not negotiable, it needs to be on.
I'd post a picture of him, but he's also not very photogenic at the moment, what with the constant trying to get away from new things (He likes the camera though, and wants to rub his head on it.)
I can coax him out from under the bed by pantomiming brushing. He'll do anything for you to brush him. He loves bring brushed, combed, rubbed, scratched. Do it often and do it firmly, the cat absolutely loves it!
It seems, that to steel his courage, he needs to be touching me in one way or another. So, in time, he'll brave that scary noisy water dish, and maybe even find out where I've 'hidden' the food. He doesn't seem to like the bathroom much, for whatever reason. Haven't figured that out yet.
I'm using one of those feline anti-anxiety diffusers to try to help him, along with a LOT of attention, which he seems to adore.
I'll update with pictures as time goes on, and he gets to be less shy, and more out and about with me. He's already started laying on the ground beside me, or hopping up onto the bed with me while I'm doing things.
So, I just thought I'd give a little update. New cat announcement and all!
