I saw this on a bunch of my buddies' lists and in no particular order, I present to you my personal all-time Top 10 list:
Coldplay - X&Y
This album arrived in my lap at a very crucial time in my life. I was going through a "who am I" sort of phase and this album means a lot to me. The lyrics speak more than words to obstacles I've faced and continue to overcome. My first unpublished manuscript is a product of my love for this album and even shares a title with one of the tracks. It's just a great album and though it was heavily criticised for sounding like the first two, I think it was a more self-aware album and I appreciated that - the whole bigger than me ideal.
Elvis Presley - Introducing Elvis
I love Elvis more than people would imagine and the Introducing Elvis 3-cd set is a great add to any Elvis fan. I like this music because even though I'm not like 70 years old, my soul clings to the stuff like it's honey. I get really nostaglic and I like it. It's just great ol' fun!
The Corrs - Talk On Corners
The Corrs are one my favourite groups and I really like their music. Their tunes have got that homey touch to it and I like how it can be light as well as really thoughtful and profound with a touch of reality.
David Cook - Analog Heart
I realized after becoming well aquainted with David Cook that I ought to go back to my roots - that being the little girl who listened to Blur or Our Lady Peace and now that I'm older, I appreciate music like this because it's got a real prolific sound and edge to it without sugar coating the harshness of our realities. I cannot wait till his album release on Tuesday! Ack!! Cannot wait!
Future Unknown - The Rising
This is a pretty awesome album and it's one of my favourite MJ albums to listen to. I think The Rising had much potential as a group but everything works out for a reason! I love Redemption - favourite Rising song ever! And of course, the title song, Future Unknown. I'm looking forward to Johnsy's new material coming in the new year.
Supernatural - Music from Television Series (I made this one)
Sometimes you gotta let your mullet do the rocking. I added music from Styx, Lynrd Skynrd, The Animals, AC/DC and Rush and much more that entailed the soundtrack for the show during the first two seasons. I love listening to music meant for fun road trips and muddy looking bars.
To Have Heroes
I love this album and I think Andy could have had a good thing going, though now it's just gotten better for him. I really love how his songwriting is so valid and to the point. He's a great writer and I appreciate that most in music - the writing. It's got to be solid and real for it to be memorable and understandable.
Bryan Adams - Anthology
Do I need a reason to tell you why I love this album? It's Bryan Adams. Canuck. Great songwriting and awesome musician. His music is awesome and I sing Summer of '69 like it's no one's business, lol. Oh and Heaven and Everything I Do. Those are epic tracks! Plus, I'm a sucker for listening to the Don Juan DeMarco track, Have You Ever Really Loved A Woman. Don't laugh...
Coldplay - Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends
I love this album and I love how it's evolved from the first three. I relate to it in a way of my own personal growth. Sure that sounds lame but it's true. I've matured (a bit) in the past few years and have become more aware of myself and I think that's why I resonate with this album so much. It's lighter and much more involved in trying to make a statement about our surroundings rather than diving into a reflection of ourselves.
Okay, so that was just 9 albums that affected me in my life and that I love a lot but I'm not going to add the tenth one because the year is not at all over and well...with the release of Cook's album this Tuesday...and from what I've heard so far, who knows? Perhaps that will end up on my list...I am so far in the love with the album...
Thanks to Elizabeth and Machka for the links to hear the DC album earlier tonight! And you're right Elizabeth. Permanent is a tear jerker.
