Email sent to students on Feb. 12, 2008 @ 11:11am entitled Xavier Hall Incident Follow Up:

The safety and security of the university community is always our highest priority.  The effort to keep our campus safe takes the continual efforts of many dedicated individuals.  I would like to thank the university employees, law enforcement and emergency services personnel who responded with speed and professionalism to the incident at Xavier Hall last night. The University has a plan for dealing with emergency situations and last night that plan worked as expected.

First of all I want to assure you that all members of the University community are safe.  Following is the information that is available at this point.
  • A young man, who is not a student, drove on to campus.  He came to Xavier Hall apparently having shot himself.  He was in search of a friend who is a Seton Hall student.
  • As a result of the self-inflicted, gun shot injury, the young man was transported to the hospital for treatment.
  • The campus was alerted to remain indoors and in place for a short period of time as a precautionary measure.
  • Within one hour, the police released the crime scene and indicated that the University could resume normal operations.

At this time, further details are part of an on-going police investigation and will be addressed by law enforcement officials.

At Seton Hall, we stand ready to assist each student at every stage of their journey.  Know that our staff in Health and Counseling Services, members of our Priest Community, Public Safety and Security, Faculty and Administrators at every level are available.

If you, or anyone you know, needs to speak with someone, please call:

         Counseling Services x 9500
Public Safety and Security x 9300
         Health Services x 9175

     Student Affairs x 9076

Again I am only making this public to update people.
