Starting to feel like Pooh Bear and his ballon

I am so glad that Tropical Storm Leslie won't be dropping on by in all her glory, that unwelcomed bestowed honour has been given to Newfoundland and Labrador (not that it's much of an honour anyone least of all for those living in NL).

Early last week while reading about Hurricane Isaac, I just happened to mosey on over to the NOAA then to Accuweather to see if there were anymore active systems, when I noticed Leslie. For most of last week, if you've been following the weather, Leslie had been hanging around Bermuda then stalled a few times then the meteorologists weren't sure which direction she would take. Luckily, there's a front that has pushed Leslie out to sea but not out far enough because it wasn't known if Leslie would strike us before NL.

Now, Nova Scotia is in slightly cooler waters than the Caribbean, the Gulf States and Mexico but we do get a share of hurricanes that decide to drop on by. Personally, like many others I'd prefer that they stay out at sea then make landfall....pretty obvious reasons. Hurricanes to me aside bringing the thoughts of destruction: water or wind are a royal pain in the ass, also make me dread summer.

I've heard so many people say, "Oh I just love summer" or "I can't wait for summer, all that heat and warm weather" and I just look at them as if they were crazy. Oh sure, it's nice to have hot weather - not dealing with winter's chill and sheets of ice, but it's not for me. When hearing little phrases like these I've had one person ask me why (thinking it's because my birthday is the end of August), to which I normally reply with, "It's great, huh? You obviously don't own a house or other property that can get damaged?" or "To me, from June 1st through Nov 30th I really want to avoid because of the hurricane season." You see, hurricane season might start early for those living in warmer climates and basically have to deal with them the whole season, but from mid-August to mid-Oct hurricanes start making their way in my direction.

I still remember Hurricane Juan and the damage done in his wake. Granted, Juan was only a Cat 2 and those remember Katrina, she was a Cat 3 that quickly rose to a Cat 5, but regardless hurricane strength there's significant amount of damage.

But with the approach of Tropical Storm Leslie she's located at 40.0° N, 59.1° W with maximum sustained winds of 70 mph, gusting to 85 mph and there's going to be a mess of rain and wind, before she moves on to NL later tonight/early tomorrow morning.
