After implicating Billy Blim as responsible for that woman's murder, the next logical step was for Angel to trek out to the Blim estate and stop him from doing it again. Or, well, actually Wesley and Gunn went along as well, but only Angel had been able to hop the fence.
What he ended up stumbling upon was Billy getting arrested -- by two police officers, a man and a woman -- for supposedly phoning in an unexplained tip for another crime, this one a woman's drowning.
Back at the hotel, the team was piecing that together.
"My contact at the city morgue confirms it," Wesley said, hanging up the phone. "Her body was discovered earlier tonight. A young woman was reported missing three days ago. Someone phoned in a tip."
Angel
"Billy," Angel said at once, leaning tiredly on the desk.
Gunn
"It doesn't make sense," Gunn decided. "I mean, even if he did it, he didn't do it, you know what I'm saying? So why confess? What does he get?"
Angel
"Out," Angel said, but even he didn't look like he fully understood the reasoning there. "It gets him out."
Gunn
"Yeah," Gunn said, "out of his palatial twelve million dollar compound and into a holding cell at Men's Central."
Wesley
"Yes, but for how long?" Wesley said, which was as much an answer to the 'why' of it as it was a question of its own, because, well--
Cordelia
"Well," Cordelia said, "an impenetrable cube of hellfire in a heavily-guarded demon dimension couldn't do much, so my guess -- regular bars? Not really going to be a problem."
Not against Wolfram and Hart, anyway.
Angel
"She's right," Angel agreed. "All he'll need to get out this time is his lawyer."
And with that, he turned for the door, jacket already slung over his shoulder.
Wesley
"Angel," Wesley interrupted, "what are you doing?"
Angel
"I'm going to get there before Lilah does," Angel said, like it was perfectly obvious. "I took him out of one cell, I can take him out of this one, too."
Cordelia
"But it's dangerous!" Cordelia objected. "He's dangerous! What if he lays his whammy on you?"
Angel
"He won't be conscious long enough to try," Angel growled.
Fred
But before he could leave, Fred came rushing down the stairs, blurting out, "He's not there! I heard it on the police scanner -- the patrol car carrying Billy never made it to the police station. There's been an accident."
Cordelia
"What kind of accident?" Cordelia asked slowly.
Fred
"The officers who were taking him in?" Fred said. "One of them attacked his partner. She's dead."
