Yesterday I found out that the Ouran High School Host Club manga had ended -- so, obviously, I tracked down some scanlations of the last seven or so chapters. Seriously, these days, scanlations are higher quality than actual published releases -- probably because scanlations are done by fans but the companies that publish manga have to keep their overheads down.
It's always sad when a series you love finishes but, after all, this is Ouran Host Club, so the actual finale was too funny and heartwarming for it to be too sad. In the last chapter with Haruhi going abroad to study the club decides to introduce her to the club's guests as a girl for the first time. But when the club's guests see Haruhi in a dress they all go, "Oh, Haruhi, we already knew your secret -- and we always thought you'd look good in a dress." In other words, the customers she served in the host club weren't just guests, they were also her friends.
But, of course, this is Ouran Host Club, so there's always time for one last, goofy joke. Later, when everyone is seeing Haruhi and Tamaki off at the airport (yep, they're going together), Haruhi's dad mentions his "daughter" and all of the host club guests freak out: what, Haruhi's a girl? Haruhi points out that they said they knew her secret and the girls say "We thought your secret was that you and Tamaki were gay and we wanted to support your forbidden love." Ah, Ouran.
Another fun bit in the last few chapters was a dream Haruhi has where she confesses her feelings to Tamaki: "I love you, Tamaki." Tamaki replies: "You do? Well, yes -- I love myself too! How could you not? I'm a genius and incredibly good looking. Here, I'll give you a membership card in my fanclub."
So it seems that finally the door to the third music room is shut. Ouran, you were an extremely silly series, but you were always able to make me laugh.
