August Event ~ Whispers in the pool

Aug 05, 2009 00:57

It was the first time she'd found a pool here. Ororo would like it, all steamy glass and tropical plants around a free form, warm pool of water. Even better, in her mind, it was snowing beyond the glass. All fluffy white peace outside the small oasis ( Read more... )

You know what's endlessly amusing when you keep forgetting what you just heard? Near-pareidoliac whispers!

She wanders in, stands, and could probably stand here all day.

And night.

And day again.

The other person present was certainly far from amused. She was tense and strained and...probably going to sit there just as long, seeing something that was neither here nor now.

"Hello?"

Person will now attempt to talk back to the whispers.

"No, I don't think--no, radiation--no, orbits--yes, singularities are--"

Rachel mind was trying, desperately, to sort sounds into things she could understand. That meant, in her mind, one of the pack behind her was whimpering and muttering in her sleep. Without shifting her head in the least she reached back to touch the girl's knee, sending calm and a quiet, mental ::Shhh...::

Khephera had felt the large body of water calling to her. She had thought perhaps it was the cistern for this place, but a cursory glance around the strange room revealed it to be a bathing pool. She had heard of such things, in her travels along the coast, but she'd never see something like this.

There were lights beneath the surface that made it shimmer and gleam, and around the edge, a stunning array of fascinating plants with vivid blossoms and huge leaves.

But she was not alone. There were spirits in the air, murmuring quietly, the very air tinged with their discontent. And she could see the young woman crouched at the edge of the pool, listening intently.

"Do you hear them too?"

Rachel was obviously listening to something, but Khephera didn't seem to be among them. She didn't even twitch a muscle at the woman's question, nor did she speak.

If one listened carefully though one could barely hear the trickle of a worried, soft growl from her lips?

The whispers move, spirits shifting around her, echoing off the hard surfaces.

The woman's growl makes Khephera's hair stand on end.

For the first time since she arrived in this strange place, she truly misses her guardians. Hafiz would know whether it was safe or not to remain.

Well, she wasn't making any threatening moves at all, nor turning that growl upon Khephera, so the risk could be but so great right?

A swimsuit had appeared in her room.

Amber was somewhat used to the weirdness of the place now (and it wasn't a terrible suit), so she'd tracked down the pool. (After several hours of avoiding the subject, anyway.)

The whispers had started in the locker room, and didn't respond to hissing, growling, or shouting. Or throwing things. Or kicking lockers.

Storming out to the actual pool area, she stopped short when she saw Rachel.

Rachel wasn't in a swimsuit, she'd stumbled in unprepared. Very unprepared. There wasn't the slightest sign that the girl even knew Amber had arrived. No twitch of muscles, no turning her head...

The damp and dripping room was full of shadows though...and a heavy sense of waiting.

Shit.

SHITSHITSHITSHIT.

Knife. (The bag is always with her. Always.) Shadows are danger now.

She shuffles closer, senses on edge now, too.

"Rach?" (It's probably a good idea to make sure your presence is recognised by someone who can reduce glass to bits of sand. And burn water.)

Some shadows were more real than others though...or more likely to be able to touch reality. These? These were indeterminate. She hadn't had a name then, the soft call didn't really register. Just a presence.

She could always feel Pack when they were near.

Too loud and the guards would hear though. Hounds weren't suppose to speak. ::Shhhhh:: she sent softly to girl behind, never taking her eyes off what she was seeing. Like shadows, sometimes a telpath's memories were more real rather than less.
