The wall peeled up along one corner and Hinata poked her head in incredulously. She hadn't expected the inn to be on the other side of a tent flap, it just didn't seem right...though in this case it was convenient. She stepped through, the wall flapping down behind her, and knuckled her eyes. It was her turn for watch and she wasn't exactly awake ( Read more... )

"You should look at where you're walking."

This one is wearing a sphinx on its head.

A normal girl would have excuses like 'the statues weren't here when I looked' and 'I'm very tired' or something along those lines. Luckily, Hinata was a ninja "I know..." she ducked her head a moment "i should have seen them. Did they come up under y-you or did you c-climb?"

"I climbed. It was fun. I am high up now, so I can see more things. Except when there are walls. I can only see the walls." She does not have x-ray vision. Woe.

Hinata nodded to herself and climbed up a statue as well, the better to plot a crash-free course through them! "And t-that hallway!" she pointed. Indeed there was a large hallway past the statues, a hallway with colored lights leaking from it!

"I like it. It makes colors on the statues."

"It is very p-pretty." Hinata agreed. She couldn't say the same for the statues it was lighting up down there but the light itself certainly was. She glanced back at her little friend and froze "Umm...your statue moved!"

WHAT

!!!

This is upsetting! This is all-fur-stand-on-end upsetting! She missed something.

Time to stare hard at the statue.

"I did not see it."

"You d-didn't feel it move under you?" Hinata was staring wide eyed at the arms, which were now holding a flute carved in the likeness of a bone to stony lips.

"I did not."

She experimentally pokes its face.

"Statues are not supposed to move."

Nor were they suppose to play music! This one was however. A thin, reedy dirge on the stone flute that required no more apparent movement.

Hinata held out her hands, worried "Come on over here..."

b-but! The statue is being interesting!

Tail goes switch switch switch!

And she reaches down and presses one of the holes on the flute.

The song scaled up a second, going from haunting to hair-raising. In response to that, the statue Hinata was on stood and shook it's limbs out.

The ninja opted for climbing the thing's shoulders.

Hinata's statue didn't seem the least inclined to stop moving once the note stopped. if anything it's movements became less constrained as it worked out the stiffness of stony centuries.

She finally gave up her perch for leaping to another, still, statue. "Don't do that again!"

"Yes," she agrees an octave above normal. "These are not enjoyable statues. They are wrong statues."

"Can you get out t-to the hall?" Hinata asked, eying the labyrinth if statue bases below and comparing them to the randomly spaced statue heads (and other things) above for jumping.
