Ryan would advise people that if the kitchen stove has been replaced by an odd piece of machinery that makes food appear out of thin air, DON'T EAT IT.

At least his hair is growing out it's normal shade, but for now? It's still mostly purple. Ryan? Has added it to his list of things to ignore.

The basket in Rachel's hands, when she entered was...screeching. That was a problem apparently because she made a beeline for Ryan "Can you hold him a second? His food is in the bottom of the basket..."

...

...

...

"That's a pretty shade."

Ryan gives her a disbelieving look.

"Hold what and no, it isn't."

He makes no move to take the basket. Knowing this place, it probably has miniraptors in it or something.

"O. He's an owl." she clarified, reaching into said basket to pull out a small, cloth wrapped bundle to offer him. She needed what was in the bottom of the basket! "You don't like your hair?"

"Why do you have an owl?" Notice how Ryan is still not taking the bird.

Also notice how they are not talking about his hair.

"Because he was sick and I didn't want him to die." she stated simply. "Look, really, if you hold him while I feed him I might be able to fix your hair afterward."

!!!

Ryan takes the owl, holding the bundle away from his body.

It was a small cloth bundle with a fuzzy little head poking out, so easy to hold onto as the little thing wiggled! Rachel, satisfied that Ryan had a good hold, fished a small tupperware container out of the bottom of the basket that had his food.

Mmmm, raw hamburger mixed with egg yolks and dropped a little at a time into gaping jaws!

"How did you get purple? Was it a ray? Hair stuff?" it was important to know because she needed to plan for working on the 'outside' or the 'inside'.

"Food," he says grumpily, "from a strange machine that just made it appear out of nothing."

He never watched Star Trek. Not his sort of show.

"Huh..." she popped one last bit of food into her little bird before the think gave a coughing hiccup and fell asleep. "Well, then I'm not sure where to start. Can I touch your head?" one of the rules she was learning? Personal space.

His face and body language say 'no'.

"If it'll help you reverse it," he allows, lowering his chin a little.

It's too bad he's not the sort to be distracted by fluffy cuteness.

Really, it was too bad...at least Rachel was gentle? Just the very tips of her fingers tracing from his temples to the top of his skull as she tried to figure it out. "It's...sticky." she noted after a moment of puzzled frowning at his head. "Not quite like genetics, but it's trying. Kind of like...being sick? A virus I think..."

Charming, another disease on top of his lycanthropy.

"Can you cure it?"

...he just had a thought. But he'll wait to see how she does with the hair first.

"Probably. You're big enough that I won't hurt you accidentally." not like O, who was too tiny for her to make such promises for at her current control level. "And it's not firmly rooted." to her it felt like pulling her metaphysical hands through a mud mixture that had four parts glue in it...

...she wasn't sure what it felt like for Ryan, but purple was starting to cling to her fingers instead of his hair!

It itched, but it didn't quite feel like she was pulling.

(The petting actually feels rather nice, but good luck getting him to acknowledge that.)

"Are you capable of curing anything?"

The lovely thing about Rachel was that no one had to actually admit anything to her, especially when she was already focusing on them. It was slight, but she started massaging his scalp a little as she worked. Totally explainable as teasing the purple out quicker. "I don't know. In theory...I can see it all almost, so I can probably touch and manipulate, but I'd need to practice before I could promise about anything" she admitted honestly.

Last thing they needed was a 'patient' melting cause she slipped while fiddling with their genetics.

"I see."

So much for that idea, at least short term. Why are cures never as simple as infections?
