Grammys

Well every year I speak about the Grammys and, other than work on my site and play FFXI, that's all that happened today.

I loved it.  It started out with Gwen Stefani performing, so that helped.  Even though the opening performance had about 5 groups, with Black Eyed Peas singing in between each, and at the end at least 3 bands were all singing their own song at the same time, it was alright.

I looked forward to Kanye West's performance the whole night.  He's the first new guy on the scene since Tupac died that I really respect and admire, and he was nominated for 10 Grammys, along with a scheduled performance.  I was hoping he would sweep and make history, but it was not to be.  Maroon 5 won the Grammy in the first category in which Kanye was nominated, but even Maroon 5 acknowledged Kanye in their acceptance speech for "being so awesome" (and didn't mention any other nominees), so it's clear that everyone there recognized his genious.

In any event, just as expected, his performance was phenomenal - and I'm not just saying that as a fan.  It had a couple of weak points in which the song ("Jesus Walks") changed to one of his other ones, but then went back to "Jesus Walks" and was just really awesome.  Immediately following the performance, he won a Grammy and gave a truly emotional speech about his car accident that left his jaw in the back of his mouth.  He cried but at the end got a standing ovation (as he just had for his performance) when he said, "A lot of people were all wondering what I was gonna do if I didn't win here tonight, what crazy thing would I do?  Well, I guess now we'll never know" and held up his Grammy.  Awesome.

The rest of the show was uneventful.  Queen Latifah, the host, sang a song (remember when she was a rapper?) and there was a tribute for the Tsunami fund.

Oh, and Alicia Keyes is fucking beautiful and an amazing singer O.O  And Ray Charles kept winning albums in categories Kanye West was nominated in as well (pity vote, anyone?)

Anyways, that's all that really happened.  The rest of my day not listed here was working on my site or playing FFXI, which you can read about here.  I been working on my site throughout the Grammys, and I'ma go back to it now.

Also, in relation to my post, plus due to my friend Milay's convo with me (as seen below), the mood song tonight is Kanye West with "Jesus Walks"
