So despite my "meh" mood, Thanksgiving dinner was pretty nice.
The Luddite I was afraid I was going to snap at during a lecture on the merits of some obscure technology was out of the country on a business trip, so he missed dinner. And with another person absent, we actually only had a group of four last night. The food was very tasty; my cranberry sauce was completely devoured and the pumpkin cheesecake my hostess made for dessert was sublime.
My hosts volunteer with a local animal shelter, foster parenting problem dogs to correct their bad behaviors before placing the dogs with new owners. So every few months there is an entirely new mix of dogs. This time I was adopted by one of the pets. Stitch, an older English Labrador Retriever spent almost the entire evening next to my chair, her tail thumping the floor with pleasure if I even so much as looked in her direction. Chin scritches or a belly rub elicited moans of delight and she was audibly upset when I started to leave. I really need to get my finances in order and find the $5,000 $7,500* it would cost to fence in my back yard; I would really, really like to have a dog.
* Realistic budget for a site survey, 220' three rail fence with chicken wire on the west side to match the fence built by my neighbors on the east side, 40' of three rail fence with a vehicle gate and a pedestrian gate at the house and 100' of brown coated chain link fence deep down in the woods to finish the (unseen from my house) north edge. My front yard would not be fenced.
