RIP Project Runway

RIP Project Runway Project Rungay Project Ennui.

I used to enjoy the show, especially in the beginning when the contestants seemed crazier, more talented and capable of sometimes breathtaking work (the coat in the middle is woven out of car seatbelts and the dress on the right is made of candy wrappers.  )

I really don't care all that much about the clothes per se, but I enjoy the problem solving and creativity. The last few seasons have felt off, the designers less talented, the judges praising stuff that seemed like crap and nit-picking at designs which I thought were better. There has been less and less emphasis on the design process and more on personalities. The show I loved to watch has devolved into a bunch of bitchy back stabbers; Big Brother  or Survivor with sewing.

But every season, the show had Tim Gunn who acted as a mentor to the designers. Tim always seemed to be the voice of reason, the one honest soul left on the show. He was very good at giving people constructive criticism without insulting them and he was always there to give a heartfelt pep talk when one of the designers was about to fail. Tonight there was a special "behind the scenes" show hosted by Tim. I was floored by some of the comments he made; he drank the Koolaid. Tim was basically spouting nonsense about who won and lost and the quality of the work.

I enjoyed the show for a while, but it's time to move on and find something else worth watching; Project Runway  no longer is.
