Work is in overdrive this week.
My flight from Las Vegas landed about midnight Monday and by the time I collected my luggage, drove home and flopped into bed, it was almost three.
Tuesday morning I dragged out of bed around 9:00 AM, checked my email, responded to several messages and jumped on the road to visit a school district about 90 minutes away. The survey team is doing a full audit across the entire district, but I wanted to see the school buildings myself and check out a few areas which might benefit from daylight-responsive lighting controls. I met the maintenance manager for the school district and quizzed him about his lighting experiences. He suggested that I attend their 7:00 AM meeting the next day.
So I was awake at 5:45 AM Wednesday to get on the road and make the 7:00 AM meeting. I'm glad I made the effort; I gained some valuable information about operations and preferences from the client. I then zoomed off to tour a local hospital about their potential lighting upgrade, grabbed a salad at a Panera bread and headed back to to the school district. I spent the rest of the afternoon walking seven more schools. I was pleasantly surprised by additions to two of the buildings (below); the canary yellow glazed brick on the outside was incredibly cheery.
And of course I saw lots and lots of students. There is something about the enthusiasm and energy of little kids which is almost infectious.
