BIRFDAY

Sep 09, 2005 18:15

I was working most of yesterday, so the birthday festivities are being extended over the next couple of days. We tend not to "celebrate" birthdays much, anyway - though we do "observe" them: "Oh, hey - today's your birthday." Just about every purchase made within a couple of weeks of a birthday are considered part of the observation. So it's more of a birth-continuum than a birth-day. So, over the past few weeks, there have been a number of "presents" bought in honor of this continuum: a couple of very nice shirts, some new Skechers (dark brown to match a fabulous new Ben Sherman belt), Crash and Drugstore Cowboy on DVD, and a couple of books - Tom Carson's Gilligan's Wake, David Rakoff's Don't Get Too Comfortable, and Bill Maher's New Rules. Plus... an amazing new Zippo:

Today, I mostly slept (though there was an errand run to the post office and the bank) or at least spent a good deal of my time in bed, but we're about to head off to Boma with Travis and Jose Antonio for the official meal.  :)
