SPN 10.05

Overall, I enjoyed this episode. I wasn't sure how the show was going to handle the musical format and the meta, but it goes well.

I'm really impressed with Marie's young actress. She does a great job of portraying a creative, positive fangirl. And the writing for the characters was good. Robbie Thompson could have focused on the wankier, whinier fangirl stereotypes, like the writers on Glee who had Gwyneth Palthrow sing a song about the haters. Instead, the episode focuses on the positive fan passion, the humor is gentle, they are laughing with the fans, not at the fans. I was apprehensive about that.

In fact, all the girls were awesome. If I had to pick favorites, I might choose Maeve, the stage manager, Jody Mills understudy, and a cutie pie. Her height difference with Sam was really funny.

I'm sure everyone has already expressed it, so I'll keep it short with the squee. Samulet, Carry On my Wayward Son, feels were felt fhdjkfhdksghak;dghp aaaaaaaaaaaaa :D

I'm still a bit disappointed about the inconsistency of going from Dean tries to kill Sam with an axe (10.03) to who's the real monster (10.04) to this cuddly heartwarming pile of puppies episode. I feel like people writing this episode and the people writing the previous episodes were not in communication with each other, and it ended up being this thing with Sam not in the least bit worried that his brother has exhibited strong fratricidal impulses. I would find the story more cohesive if he were a little twitchier around Dean.

But it's a minor thing because a) inter-episode continuity was never SPN's strong suit, b) it can be easily headcanon'd, c) it could have spoiled the mood in this episode.

9/10
