I thought it was great! I'm intrigued by Jody and Alex, maybe they could become the new all-girl hunting team, like Jo and Ellen used to be. And, this is very shallow, but Alex is so unbelievably pretty, I would love to see her again. It was kind of funny that she looked a lot like Rory Gilmore.
Dean is really coming alive with the darkness and the murderousness. It truly feels like this is going somewhere, and this time there will be payoff. I liked purgatory!Dean last year, which had kind of fizzled out iirc. Ever since Dean went to hell, they are making these steps for him to go dark, with the alcoholism, the torture, etc, and this time it looks like it will be a whole narrative arc, with a climax and a resolution. Fingers crossed.
My desire for dark!Dean is also motivated by the memory of 1.06 episode, Skin, where Shapeshifter!Dean had Sam tied up. I was watching 9.19 bondage Sam scenes, and it felt like a good thing, but also a little bit of "been there done that". But when Dean started untying Sam, only he didn't hurry up and decided to make a catty remark first (I know, you wouldn't do the same thing), wow, I perked up immediately. Dean tying Sam up and saying hurtful, mean, obsessive things to him, now that would rejuvenate my wincest shipping for sure.
Sam was truly Robin the boy hostage in this ep. I didn't mind.
