Carpenter's Journal Assignments

Nov 09, 2004 02:09

The last few days I've been motivated to clean up my mess of a room. I've tripped over some of those boxes just one too many times now, so I threw out some stuff that hasn't found a home since the summer and have been generally rearranging and organizing and sorting since then. Tonight, I went through my one tote of papers and such. While going through the stuff, I found the journal that we had to keep for Mr. Carpenter's psychology course at Allentown Business School. I flipped through it briefly and realized that, amazingly, I missed doing that kind of thing.

Now, if you think about that, you'll realize that it's a tad ironic. After all, I have a blog (and a LiveJournal before that), and I certainly don't update it very often. The Carpenter Journal was nice though in that we had assigned topics to write about frequently, and we also were required to write a certain number of times each week. It wasn't designed to be a chronicle of one's life events (like a diary). It was, at times, more of a thought monologue on various topics. (And at times, a touch of dialogue, as Carpenter did write comments in the journal when he collected it.)

Thus far, I've primarily treated this blog (and the prior LiveJournal) as something akin to an occasional diary. I chronicled life happenings in it at times, and pasted interesting tidbits in as I came across them. Those things have value, but I want to do more with this. I want to start writing more, and start writing with more depth. I want to get some thought monologues going again. Or perhaps even dialogues, since this thing does have commenting features built into it. :)

So, that's my newest goal. We'll see how well I fare on it. :-P
