delayed musings...

I've been quite neglectful of blogging recently.

I meant to finish writing this the other day, but got distracted with a few other items. I'll go back and give it a go:

So the other day, I decided, why not make Eugenia Jam? We have a Eugenia tree (Eugenia Myrtifolia/Syzygium Paniculatum) in the back yard, and apparently its past the blooming stage (when the little whips from the flowers usually stuck to my car) and now has produced berries. Edible berries, but not much taste. As lame as it may sound, it tastes, aromatic. With an olfactory, rather than gustatory taste, what can one do? Make jelly!! :)

The end product is quite tasty, but has seeds (which are also edible, but don't look very appetizing. I can't really describe them with my usual way of describing them, because it just doesn't sound as appetizing. But, I think I'll make some more sometime.

As for studying updates, last week, I checked my scores, and passed one more! Granted, I earned the bare minimum score, but its better than failing by one point. :). Nonetheless, must start studying for my next exam. No idea when I'll schedule it, but I should get a start on studying soon.

And now, the financial markets. The past few weeks have been crazy, but exciting at the same time. Too bad I'm not on top of my investing research, otherwise I probably can find some good deals out there. As for the roller coaster stock market and with all the of bank mergers/failures/bankruptcy/bailouts, it certainly makes things exciting. As long as there's pessimism, fear, lack of capital, and so much uncertainty, it probably will keep being exciting. But I have to wonder what will happen after. What will my risky, day trading coworkers have to do instead of intently following Fannie and Freddie, or buying the next hot stock out there? I should focus some time on finding some good investments though, especially when, perhaps, the market may soon be hitting the bottom? I do wish that people weren't so scared to put deposits in the bank. Too much unvested fear in normal banks.

On another note, I am looking forward to a few things next month:

(1) Vacation! Off to New England for two weeks. Tentative plans include Massachusetts, Vermont, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Maine, and New Hampshire. Any suggestions are greatly welcomed. This planning is more difficult than I anticipated. I really don't know that much about the east coast! Goal this year, spend more time outdoor!

(2) Raise day, surprisingly enough. I think I'm just looking forward to making more than the new hires... (Background, the new hires that just started are making more than us! Sigh....)

(3) The return of hockey! First game (albeit, a preseaon game) vs Phoenix :)

(4) I hear fall is a lovely time to work in a garden. Maybe I need to be more proactive about planning a fall garden..

(5) Beginning of fall festivities!! (Okay, that's a little early, but it's never too early to think about Thanksgiving, right?)

(6) Persimmons!

And there are some things I don't look forward to....

(1) Drives to Torrance/Gardena for work...

(2) The return of incrementally longer work days. Standard will be 9 hrs/day starting next week.

(3) Studying.. again?

On the bright side, at least I have more things I'm looking forward to than dreading.

Ooh, and the lovely weekend is here! Always a good sign!
