Just because this isn't how it's being spun by officialdom:
that flight with the underwear bomber was in no real danger.
Here's the drill. Two ounces of the explosive in question (PETN) would blow a hole in the multi-layered aluminum fuselage; but only if fired in contact with the aluminum. If detonated any distance away, the shock would simply be reflected back into the cabin (that being the path of least resistance). So where was this perhaps two ounce explosive charge? A foot or so away, between the legs of the idiot setting it off. The blast would have mostly been channeled up, down, and forward (away from the fuselage); which would have sucked for whoever was in front of the idiot, but wouldn't have been any real threat to the flight as a whole.
I'm getting a little tired of terrorist LARPers. But what the heck; better this than someone with a clue.
