James Norrington felt the barnacle-encrusted spar punch through his torso.
He heard Elizabeth scream his name. Then the strength went out of his legs, and he collapsed. He tasted blood in the back of his throat, but felt no pain.
The world faded for a moment, and when his vision cleared, Davy Jones was crouching before him. "Do you fear death?"
He lashed out with the last of his strength, to stab the Dutchman's captain in the shoulder.
Jones laughed. "We'll see how you feel when your wound starts to fester," he said. "Take the traitor to a cell."
