10. I Don’t Know
Shim Changmin wasn’t an idiot. Sure he was young, but he wasn’t stupid as his hyung believed him to be.
“You like Kim Jaejoong more that you’re letting on,” Changmin said suddenly. Yunho choked on the water he was drinking.
Yunho had just gotten off a three-hour conversation with the older man and Changmin was bored (and bitter-Japan was lonely and he only had Yunho yet Yunho had his precious sunbae) out of his mind.
“Eh-eh?!”
“But he’s forty-four and you’re just a kid,” Changmin pondered to himself out loud. “I can’t think of any reason why he would like you. You always complain to him. You rely on him way too much. You forget your manners sometimes when you talk to him. You are a greenhorn who acts like a suck up.”
Changmin continues for a minute longer but stops when Yunho slams the plastic bottle on the table.
“I know that,” Yunho hisses. “Jaejoong-sunbaenim was the top idol in his day. The most desired man in all of Asia. One of the best vocalists in Korea, second to maybe Kim Junsu. One of the most charitable idols of all times. JYJ broke into the Japanese market and even went over to Europe. Even after they left SM, Jaejoong-sunbaenim’s popularity never died. He was the idol of idol, no, he still is. He’s gentle and kind and caring and even though he looks cold, he’s such a warm person.”
Changmin feels a stab of guilt. He took it a little too far. So he stays silent and just listens.
“Look at me,” Yunho continues. “I’m just a newcomer who’s had a lucky streak so far. I’m just an immature brat who can’t keep his footing in the Japanese market. Compared to Kim Jaejoong, I’m nothing. I don’t even know why he talks to me so much. Pity maybe? I’m not even-”
Yunho falls silent all of a sudden. Changmin looks at his hyung and realizes exactly how young nineteen is. They’ve only debut two years ago and JYJ’s been on the market for twenty-four.
“I can’t help or support him in any way and I hate that,” Yunho finally said, looking out the window with such longing and-lovelovelovelovelovelovelove.
Changmin felt a twinge of jealousy.
Jung Yunho was only nineteen yet he fell in love so earnestly. Some people might not experience such a feeling until they were, say, forty-four. In some way, Yunho was leaps and bounds ahead of Changmin in wis-
“But that’s only because I admire him,” Yunho suddenly declared and Changmin felt his forehead connect with the table.
Never mind. Jung Yunho was an idiot.
