8. Telephone

Since then, they began talking on the phone almost every night.
Jaejoong would impart his knowledge from his days and Yunho would inform the elder of the changes. Through these nightly conversations, Jaejoong could feel both the age gap and the lack of one.
Some nights, it felt like he was nineteen all over again and completely at the mercy of his heart. They would tease each other like old friends and find joy in knowing just a bit more about the other one.
Yunho tells Jaejoong the first song he’s heard from JYJ while Jaejoong confesses the worst outfit he’s seen DBSK wear to date. Jaejoong sings his favorite DBSK song and Yunho admits he can’t hit the correct high notes to sing his favorite JYJ song. Yunho would complain about Changmin and his evil ways while Jaejoong would grumble about Yoochun’s sneaky intentions and Junsu’s obliviousness.
Then there were some nights, when he felt the full weight of his forty-four years. He would listen to Yunho’s youthful worries and cringe at how long ago it was since he concerned about such things. Yunho would listen attentively to his and offer a different perspective.
Jaejoong tells Yunho of his insecurities as he ages while Yunho confesses the opposite that his insecurities occur only because he’s so young. Jaejoong sings an almost crying Yunho to sleep and Yunho admits he can’t stand it (Japan, the food, the people, Changmin’s immaturity, how he can’t complain, the streets, the language, the shows, the-) anymore. Jaejoong would complain about the biases within the entertainment world while Yunho would grumble about the stereotypes the society carries toward idols.
Before they knew it, the spring had come and their drama would begin filming. Yunho was coming home.
(“The management allowed you to take this time while you’ve just started promotions in Japan?”
“Well, I had to kind of beg for it…”
“Beg for it?”
“Just be happy I’m coming back!”
“Aw, do you want to work with me that badly?”
“…yes, I do.”
Jaejoong felt his insides flutter.)
Not that he told or showed anyone, but Jaejoong has saved Yunho’s number under:
My lovely Yunho <3
And whenever that caller ID springs up, Jaejoong felt his heart soar and plummet at the same time.
