Fellow Ozians

I have completed my Oz-fanatic requirements and seen WICKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In Hollywood! With fabulous famous people like John Rubenstein, (from one of my favorite movies, Boys from Brazil, amongst many other things) as the wizard, and Jenna Leigh Green as Nessarose, who played Libby in Sabrina the Teenage Witch, which I spent my entire childhood watching.

It was FABULOUS!

Probably would have liked to see the Broadway showing better, but...Famous People!

Anyway...It was a good show, but being the Gregory Maguire fan that I am, I was a bit disappointed at some parts, which I will now complain about:

-I didn't like the way they portrayed the Animals. I mean, they did a fabulous job on makeup and everything, but you're not supposed to be able to differentiate between Animals and animals. Parts of the book just wouldn't make sense that way.

-I know Galinda is supposed to be kinda an air-head, but I honestly think they made her too dumb. I mean, when I read Wicked, and granted that was years ago (and I plan on rereading it once I recover it from my parents' house)I remember her being bubbly, and popular, and just not so street-smart. Didn't know how to treat people right. But this air-head, bouncy, puppy-dog-esque Galinda didn't quite do it for me.

-Fiyero is supposed to be black. That's really the only problem I had with his character. It just took something away from the story. From what I remember, and forgive me if I'm wrong, was that he was like a tribal prince and had those not-piercings where they raise bumps under the skin...and that made him different-like Elphaba.

-Nessarose does not have arms...really that irritated me, but I guess it would be hard to make it look realistic on stage. And her slippers are supposed to be enchanted from the beginning. And Elphaba doesn't want them for a memory, she was jealous of her father's love for Nessa, and those shoes were a symbol of it.

-Elphie and Nessa's father was a minister.

-Boq wasn't that much of an asshole.

and most annoying,

-Elphaba lives! Really, Broadway? Did you have to do that? While everyone else was clapping and whatnot, CP and I boo-ed. Read a book for goodness sake people! Heck, you don't even have to read! Watch the Wizard of OZ! I would love it if Elphie lived, really. Oz would have been a better place. But having her live- like that. Faking her death so she can runaway with her lover? So Un-Elphie! She's a MARTYR!!! She was willing to die for her cause! If you take that away- it takes away almost all of her credibility! GIRRR

----DONE COMPLAINING.

As a play, it was fabulous. I just have to think of it as separate from the novel.

And to all who are Galinda-esque, even though they may not want to admit it to themselves, go see the play (or read the book if you're one of the more intelligent people I'm talking about) because even she realized "goodness" isn't just black and white.

...sometimes its green.

(I'll post more about our crazy trip when I can locate the notebook from the depths of my car...I just had to...its WICKED!)
