On OZ

and Wicked and WICKED

So, if you know me well, at all, you’d know that I have a cat named Elphaba, and the WICKED soundtrack playing in my car. What you may not know, is I’m not new to this whole OZ craze. I keep most of my fanaticism to myself...except about the cats...I love those cats...
Anyways I’m off topic...When I was not yet able to talk, apparently my mother showed me the Wizard of Oz movie for the first time. I can remember watching it almost on a weekly basis during the earlier part of my childhood. When I learned to read, I was like 6, I read my first Oz book. Thats what got me into reading. And I’ve read and reread almost all the Oz books, and still do every once in a while. Then the OZ tape went missing for a while, and I kinda forgot about it all.
Middle school I went into the noticeable OZ craze. I found the missing tape, and fell in love with it again. My mom bought me a new version on dvd for my birthday. I realised how dumb and naive dorothy was. And how young Judy Garland was, and gained a whole new respect for her, as well.
Towards the end of middle school, I found Wicked. The BOOK. By the fabulous Gregory Maguire. And I fucking loved it, especially because I was in my little bad girl stage (ahh middleschool). And I could totally relate to Elphaba’s character.
I understood that it was different from the movie and the OZ books, and loved it in its own...I sort of like it better. But thats just because I’m so much like Elphie.
Then the musical. People I had been telling to read the book for years suddenly got an interest in Wicked. But they didn’t read the book. They went off reviews, and the soundtrack. I haven’t seen the musical yet, but from the music and photos Ive seen, they’ve changed a bunch from the book. Like Nessa doesn’t even have arms!
Now I don’t like all of you fake wicked fans. fake OZ fans. fakers of any sort...And I really don’t like it when Galida-esque people say they’re Elphie-esque. But what irritates me more is when people cant separate a book series from a movie from a novel from a musical. Come on people! Use those brains!
Also, my views on OZ (its existance)
Yes, Dorothy wakes up at the end and its all a “dream” However, I have dreams that seem so real that its like my brain goes to another plain of existance. And the next night I dream, it’s in the same plane, continuing from the night before. And granted its nothing like OZ (Its a bit gorier, I wish it were OZ) but OZ is still fictional, dream or not. So I thik OZ exists in the story as a different plane, not a coma induced dream.

p.s. i have decided that i am going to make posts every so often with my views on shit, i feel its important for you to know certain things about me.
