US election filter

So many of my flist answered the questions I asked a few days ago related to the US election, and it ended up as a really interesting discussion in parts. So here's what I'm thinking.

I enjoy politics and I'll be following the primaries and the presidential election with great interest. I'd love to be able to chat about it from time to time with like-minded people - and by 'like-minded' I don't mean people who share my position on the political spectrum, but people who also enjoy politics and the political process. I've set up a US election custom group, which means when I post about the election only people on my flist who are part of that custom group will see the posts and be able to participate in the discussion. If you'd like to be in that group, post a reply and I'll add you.

Just so you know what you'd be getting into:

- I'm  pretty left-wing when it comes to politics (was a member of the British Labour Party for a number of years and also an active trade unionist). While I certainly don't expect everyone to share my views - it'd be pretty boring if you did! - if the sight of someone openly supporting Democrat contenders would be a red rag for you then don't join :)

- As a consequence, I'm pretty anti-Bush. While I don't intend posts on this topic to be party political, or negative against particular individuals, I know my biases and it's entirely likely they'll come out from time to time. Again, if the idea of me being critical of Bush would offend you, steer clear.

- I'm European - born in Ireland, worked for 16 years in the UK - and now live in Canada. In other words, I am not American, and if the thought of a non-American commenting on your political process, perhaps comparing it to other countries', and possibly even comparing it critically, would irritate you, you might be better off not signing up ;)

Other than that, the more the merrier! So let me know if you'd like to be part of this custom filter. And roll on the Iowa caucuses!

(I need an election icon... ;) )
