Sherlock: Incoherent reaction

Jan 15, 2012 20:37

Non-spoilery comment first of all: Martin Freeman and Benedict Cumberbatch deserve BAFTAs for those performances.

First: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

Second: At least they showed us Sherlock alive, but poor John! And the look on Sherlock's face!

Third: Mycroft! Not only believing his brother's dead (I do think we're supposed to think Mycroft believes it), but thinking it's all his fault! ETA: no, I don't think Mycroft believes he's dead, on reflection; I think he's upset at the loss of Sherlock's reputation, but I do now think he's part of the conspiracy.

Fourth: Lestrade bloody better not believe that fake crap! ETA: but he's definitely put himself outside the very small group of friends John will allow to come near him now, I suspect. Damn Moriarty!

Fifth: How far Sherlock has come from the self-declared (whether or not he believes it's true) high-functioning sociopath of A Study in Pink, and even from the I just have one of last week's episode. He lists off three friends without even hesitating. Though, much as I love that Lestrade's on the list, what about Molly? Unless Sherlock believes Moriarty doesn't know that he's become closer to Molly, and he wants to protect her?

Sixth: That phone conversation was heartbreaking. I don't know how much of it was Sherlock setting up the 'perfect suicide' conditions to ensure that John believes he's dead, but at least some of it had to be real. Yes, Sherlock can act, and we've seen him fake tears before, but it did feel as if there was genuine emotion there, for him as much as for John.

Seventh: John at the grave. Oh, god. Words fail me. John's not the kind of man to talk about his feelings - of course we know that - but that scene showed how much he loves Sherlock. Knows him, too: that 'please, don't be dead, for me'. Loved Mrs Hudson's attempt to help John by listing all the things she hated about Sherlock - as if she doesn't love him too.

Eighth: This has put John back in therapy. And he can't go back to Baker Street. Oh, John.

Ninth: What did Molly do? Obviously, she helped Sherlock survive the fall and fake his death. She had to have arranged for all the Barts staff to come out like that - and was she responsible for the cyclist who knocked John over? Or is that Sherlock's homeless network? But with all those people, how on earth could Sherlock's survival be kept secret?

Tenth: Oh, shit,  I just know they're going to make us wait at least a year again before the next episodes! Bastards.

Didn't cry on first viewing. Am almost certain I will on the second. Shit.

TL;DR: Oh, shit.
