Because I know I have a lot of Sherlock fans on my flist...
I'd like some Sherlock fic to dip into every now and then, but I don't want to join any of the comms. I can't afford that much time-sucking! Here's the kind of thing I'd enjoy:
- pre- and post-episode pieces
- character studies
- relationship stories, both friendship and slash (but no PWP,

Sherlock calmly and logically explains the all practical reasons for their union--but, to Sherlock's confusion, John freaks out at the idea. This fic is deliciously funny, but it has a very serious subtext about why people should be allowed to marry whomever they want. The author also understands that marriage is about trust and love, not necessarily sex. Don't worry about the story becoming too preachy, because none of these themes are stated blatantly. You'll be too busy being entertained. If nothing else, this story is worth reading for the priceless conversation between John and Mrs. Hudson.
You Play the Cards You're Dealt by tristesses (PG-13) - Sally counts the reasons why she despises Sherlock Holmes. Quietly angry--and I can't say I blame her at all. This entire story struck a chord with me, but the stand-out sentence:
Went to public school, has relatives in the government, though she's not supposed to know (she may not be a consulting ( ... )

There's also a Sherlock version of calufrax called 221b_recs, although it is all versions and not just Sherlock.
Can't help you with icons; I tend to bleep right over them.

Mostly older stuff, since I fell out of reading much of anything recently (and I have insane amounts of nifty OT3/DW/TW fic to catch up on, I know, including some of yours), but I'm getting there. :)

-You can't go wrong with anything by irisbleufic. In trying to pic a favorite of hers, I go back and forth between her Drowning Man series, a lyrical followup to TGG, and The Shape I Found You In, an epistolary fic written in collaboration with moony.
- The Hour of Separation by vegarin. After the events of The Great Game, Sherlock disappears to hunt down Moriarty. The story follows John's life without him. It's gorgeous and full of yearning and great John characterization.
- Here, Our Minutes Grow Hours Excellent treatment of the difficulties of a relationship developing between two flatmates, one of whom previously thought he was straight.
-It's hard to spend five minutes in Sherlock fandom without seeing a rec for wordstrings. Wordstrings really is amazing, though her(?) rather crazy Sherlock is not quite everybody's cup of tea.
- Wherein There Is a Case, Several Mysteries, John Coming to the Rescue, and an Old Folk Saying. Does what it says on the tin ( ... )

To add on to the Second Law of Thermodynamics, you should read the entire series here: Thermodynamics Series
Now this one's a WIP, but I adore her Anthea and John. I find it all kinds of brilliant, and though the author posts relatively slowly (it's still faster than rallalon ;)) I still recommend it: Semper Fidelis. It's BAMF!John and BAMF!Anthea go after Moriarty. There's background John/Sherlock and Anthea/Mycroft. There are a few other stories by that author that are also really good that I've enjoyed.
A Thorough Study On The Ordinary Baker Street Fauna - Watson overhears Sherlock confessing his developing feelings towards him. To a replacement skull.
A Mile in His Shoes - The best body!swap fic I've ever read. Don't get turned off by this, really. I started reading it and I couldn't stop. I love the characterisation and the insight into their characters this story gives us.
A Study in Sexuality - What if John is straight, totally straight, so straight that he’d never even consider another man? What would happen ( ... )

A London Blitz
ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE. With Sherlock and John not caring about anything but getting to each other - and being badass along the way. Plus it has 'Anthea' being awesome and kick ass and epic and implied Mycroft/'Anthea'. It's tense and well-plotted but the relationship is amazingly handled too.
