Oh, wow, he's hurting so much! He really needs his friends now. I love how they handled him, so gently, but definitely letting him know they weren't going to let him get away with trying to chase them off.

Even at this point, which is in my head close to a year after Steven's and Ianto's deaths, I think Jack would still be badly traumatised - so telling anyone, let alone people whose good opinion he always valued, would be very difficult. But they do care about him, so they had no intention of letting him get away :)
