Donna Noble Is Brilliant.
Awesome. Fantastic. She's all of those things and more, as is apparent from all of her episodes.
So if the only way you can make Donna look good in your fic is to bash another character, then maybe you're writing her wrong.
And, yes, anyone writing Rose or Martha who has to bash the other to make their character look good: ditto. They are awesome on their own merits. They don't need someone else to look bad in order for them to look good - and, if you look at it that way, it's an insult to them to suggest that the only way they can look good is by making the other look bad.
Yes, of course this is nothing new, and it's even spread to writers who should know better; a fic a couple of months ago on Tsp by a Martha-centric author whose work I generally admire appeared to exist for the sole purpose of making Rose look about as bad as she could possibly be portrayed. And I can't count the number of pro-Rose fics bashing Martha, Reinette or whoever else tends to catch the authors' ire. But now it seems to have spread to Donna fans as well, which makes me very sad. Yet more writers to add to my mental 'do not read' list.
(Icon, btw, was made long before S4, otherwise Donna would be in there too).
