Palin-shmalin

Excuse my political ranting. Maybe some of you have gone here in your thinking already, but I just feel compelled to vent a little. It got a little long, so click away.

The more I think about it, the more the idea of Sarah Palin pisses me off.

Sarah Palin has 5 children, the youngest an infant with Down Syndrome who probably needs a whole lot of care. Now, Palin is of the sort that holds family values at the core of her principles. What is she doing in politics when she is probably needed very much by her family at home? Is her husband a stay-at-home dad? I wonder.

Palin is an advocate of abstinence-only education for high school students. It turns out that her 17-year old daughter is pregnant and unmarried. Perhaps that could be seen as a red flag that Palin's views on sex education haven't been entirely effective? I mean, isn't that a little glaringly obvious? How is she going to help the country with this approach if she can't even help her own family?

But most of all, the idea of her having to take over as president scares the CRAP out of me. Her political experience amounts to a stint as governor for 20 months, after being the mayor of a small town in the middle of nowhere. I don't see that as adequate preparation for the most powerful position in pretty much the WORLD. Seeing as how John McCain would be the oldest president we've ever had, I think this is a legitimate concern.

I haven't even mentioned how insulting it is that she is supposed to woo disenfranchised Hillary supporters, even though she doesn't support a number of key feminist issues. Equal pay for equal work for both men and women? John McCain voted against it, and now she's on his ticket. Reproductive rights? Of course not. And yet they talk as though all the women in America are supposed to be super stoked that there could be a woman V.P. after this election. Sorry folks, having the same lady parts as the second-in-command is not enough to make me feel like I am being represented by my government.

Seriously, what was McCain thinking? I am kind of happy, because it seems like a colossal campaign mistake and I'm not a McCain fan. But I'm also kind of pissed off about the fact that they think women are supposed to be happy about this even though it seems that Sarah Palin would have everyone living in pioneer times, of course with the exception of her while she serves as V.P.
