Christmas this year felt like an interruption of sorts. I already feel surrounded by the people I love the most, so all the gift-giving and food just kind of seemed like a distraction from what really matters. Not that I think the holiday itself is an empty ritual...not completely at least. During the morning, I woke up late and then Jeff and I played backgammon in a doughnut shop, the only place we could find to get a cup of coffee and something for breakfast. I like that kind of thing on Christmas, anything random or unexpected. Family traditions wear me out. Good thing my family doesn't really have any. This year I made lasagna for my folks, which everyone enjoyed. Then we all went to see Juno, which was pretty good, except that I'm sorry, no sixteen-year-old is that full of witticisms or that hip on 1970's punk rock. Unless she is Iggy Pop's daughter, and I'm pretty sure he doesn't have one, so that's the end of that. But I digress.
I'm glad Christmas is done; I love this little limbo-time between Xmas and New Year when there's really nothing going on and not that much to do. I am looking forward to starting substitute teaching in LA, making a little more money, and doing something different-finally!
