So I left my interview with the Peace Corps yesterday with the comfortable satisfaction of thinking that I would be nominated for a position teaching English in West Africa, which wouldn't begin for a year's time. I want to go to Africa, even though I wasn't thrilled at the prospect of having to wait an entire year for my departure. However, I was willing to be patient and make the most of the time spent waiting, especially because it would put me at the perfect timing to go to the World Cup in South Africa at the very end of my volunteer service. I was excited to go to Africa, and resigned to being patient about it.
BUT NOW everything's all screwy! Because my recruiter has nominated me for a position in Eastern Europe, to leave this September! What!? I told him I would be open to other geographical areas if something else came up, and apparently something came right up! I really didn't expect him to contact me so soon with an alternative plan to waiting a year for West Africa, but now it seems like I'll have to make a decision on where I go much sooner than I had anticipated.
I've traveled a bit in parts of Eastern Europe, and it's one of the places that are high on my list of locations where I would like to volunteer. So it looks like I might be leaving pretty soon after all!
