Just checked out my checking account balance and discovered that I had been charged a $34 overdraft fee. I was quite surprised by that, given that I had a thousand-dollar overdraft protection account that I had never, never used. But of course, with the bankruptcy, they probably learned that I'm a deadbeat and cancelled my account before I ran off to Mexico with their thousand dollars.
Sigh.
So I called them and said, basically, you cancelled my account without telling me. If I had known that I no longer had overdraft protection, I would have been extra special careful. I mean, I only went like three bucks over, so it wasn't like I was kiting bad checks or anything.
To Citizen Banks' credit, they thought that argument was perfectly reasonable and credited my account the $34 they had taken from me.
Still. First consequence of bankruptcy. It makes me sad. I feel like such a loser.
Merry Christmas.
Sigh.
