Strength in Joy

Back in the 1930s, when the Nazis took power, they had this idea that workers would be more productive if they were happy, so they sent them off on subsidized cruises. They didn't get the uptake they hoped for because the people didn't want to be indoctrinated by evil people in a floating tub they couldn't escape from.

It's true, though, that you tend to be more productive when you're happy. Mind you, I'm only happy when I'm being productive. Today, I got to combine the two - an agency phoned me up and sent me to work. I've been there all day, and am wanted back tomorrow at 8am. Believe me, I'll be there. It's not just about the moolah, it's about the dignity of labour, of feeling like I'm useful again. I hate being unemployed, basically, and the whole thing of trotting off to work every day and doing the best job I can of filing or whatever they give me really makes me happy.

The pay rate is decent, and the agency knows I won't back down if I'm mistreated. So far, they've proved themselves to be reasonable, and I'm delighted to be working for Tate. Turns out they used to be Blue Arrow. I worked for them in Birmingham, and they kept me afloat for years. No complaints there, then. Yep, it's all turning around for me, and I'm very happy ATM. Thanks, Tate.

this is my life
