It's only the beginning of March, but we've had unseasonably warm weather here in the PNW. Sunny days, and highs around 50 or so, which beats the hell out of the norm, which would be SNOW. (I'm not taking off the studded tires until April, though). It was really hard going to work when it was so nice out, but I have the next four days off, so I am a happy girl. I am posting right now just to kill time- the Girl is working on losing tooth #11, and I want her to pull it out before she goes to bed, as it is hanging by a literal thread and I don't want the Tooth Fairy to have to reach down her throat to claim said incisor. She lucked out, as we have an appointment with Herr Dentist on wednesday, and she knew he'd pull the sucker out himself if it was still there...
Well, we experienced our first pet murder this past week. The new finches that Eric brought home decided that poor Oliver was a threat, and denuded him of feathers and somehow injured him mortally. Poor little guy- he was such a sweetie, and I'm trying hard to remember that they were just following their instincts, but I don't like the little bastards now. I put the new birds in a new cage, and went out and got poor little Ron a new friend, who the Girl named Lupin. (I wanted Sirius, but oh well...). There are four new eggs in the new bird's nest, so we may have a Sirius yet, and a Snape, and a Molly.... Ron and Lupin are getting along famously- they spend most of their time snuggling in their house. Ron looks much happier, and Lupin just looks confused.
Eric had Lasik eye surgery this week, and it went great! He can see without glasses for the first time since he can remember. Some things are still coming in to focus, but all in all he's a happy dude. I still think I got the better end of the deal. (The trip to Dl's 50th b-day). Even if he hadn't agreed to my trip, I still would have encouraged him to do this- I told him that if they had something similar to restore the Girl's hearing, we'd do it in a heartbeat, right? And some day, they will.
Work is crazy. I haven't taken new clients in over six years, but I am still booked up four or five months out. It's nice, but stressful because spontaneity goes out the window. There is no one to replace me, so if I get sick or decide to take time off, I have to make it up somewhere else. Very much a mixed blessing, but I am still grateful that my business does so well. I really love all my clients- they are all more like very close friends or family, and I think if I won the lottery tomorrow, I would still do their hair. (Well, maybe not ALL of them, but most).
Well, I think I will go and see if the Girl has gotten that tooth out yet, and I think I'd better start scrounging up some quarters. Now that she's almost ten, she isn't content with anything less than $5.00.....
