Preparing to jump ship...

As I've talked about a little, LJ has been making me uneasy for a long while, basically since the SixApart purchase. I haven't seen an alternate that I felt was likely to last, although I did make an account at InsaneJournal, which I then forgot all about.

Last night chemicallace posted about her days as an LJ early adopter and volunteer, and introduced Dreamwidth, an open-source journaling site, using LJ's code base with some modifications, run by people that she used to volunteer with. I asked for an invite, and got one, so you may now find me there (I have yet to make any posts).

They are in closed beta until 4/30; existing users will get some invite codes, but they are restricting the numbers until then. At that point, the open beta begins, I should get a bunch of invite codes, and they will open up functionality to open an account by paying $3 for a month of paid account. Leave a note here, and I'll send you an invitation when I have one. (If you require joining the closed beta, let me know; I have to actually request invite codes at this point.)
