My kitchen knives are blunt as a blunt thing. I have a Kitchen Devil Rollsharp sharpener, the kind that you draw the blade through, but the only thing it does it generate a tiny pile of grey dust on the countertop. I have a steel, but I'm useless with it and the interwebs suggest that a steel is only useful for restoring the edge to an already sharp knife. Googling and looking at local hardware store and key cutting places hasn't revealed any obvious sharpening services.
Can anyone recommend either a home knife sharpening tool that works, doesn't require a knack and costs less than about £25, or a sharpening service near York?
