The Good News And The Bad News

After weeks of intensive research and weighing our options, yesterday I finally booked a block of vacation and two tickets to beeeee-autiful...

During our stay there, we will also ferry ourselves to five nights in...

I'm stoked. We've got our own cottage in Dominica, where we'll cook our own meals and explore the waterfall and hot springed island on our own. There are FRUIT TREES in our YARD! A mango tree! A pineapple patch! Fresh fish from the fisherguys every day! Paradise without the dashboard light! (Yes. I just reference Meatloaf.) In St. Lucia, we're hoping to take a kiteboarding lesson or two. It's gonna be MAGICAL, I tell you!

But uh oh...the time period for us to go was slim. Can't go til Alec's done exams on April 20, can't go at the end of May cause the website is prepping for the Video Awards and it's kind of company policy not to take vaca in June cause of the awards. If we don't use vaca days by July, they expire (I think?). So early May it was. Last night I flipped my calendar to mark the amazing adventure and, christ on a cracker, I'm gonna miss the appointment that was booked in OCTOBER to see the gastro specialist man, who is going to make my tummy better for all time. I can wait for that - heck, reschedule! We're talking vacation magic here!

BUT OH NO...I'm also going to miss the one event I was looking forward to with vim and vigour, with gross anticipation, with yearning in my soul...an intimate, small club performance with the woman who gave birth to my latest favourite album:

I know, I know - this vacation is going to be astounding. But if I was nouveau riche, or just rich in general, I would totally fly back for that night. I will remain strong: I will put on my "Back To Black" CD at approximately 10pm on May 12 and sing loudly along to the first 7 songs and think of my friends in T.O. swaying in the audience. And I will also know that in September, I will see her perform at Virgin Fest. It's not an equal consolation, but I'll take it and love it. In the meantime, the Caribbean is MINE.
