So, as most of you should know, I got a Blackberry last month. When I ordered it, I obviously added a data plan so I could go on the internet, but other than that I left my plan alone. My phone bill before this was around $50 per month - my first bill with the Blackberry was $115. I figured, "oh, it's my first bill, it was obviously going to be high - I understand that, I explain bills for a living." I just got my 2nd bill, at $120. So, I took a close look. $42 of that $120 is text message overages - I went over my allotted texts by 250 messages (that's 325 sent texts, including the ones in my plan). Needless to say, some changes needed to be made. So I called Rogers.
Apparently, I should have asked more questions when I ordered the Blackberry, because if I'd known then what I know now, my first bill would have been nowhere near $115.
First of all, my old "Communications Value Pack" was $11 and had 125 texts, call display, and voicemail. Not too shabby, I thought - until I kept going over. Now, I'm on the Blackberry Value Pack at $15 - it also has voicemail and call display, and 1000 sent picture and video messages.
What about the regular text messages, you ask? Did my allowance go up? You're darn right it did - I now have TEN THOUSAND TEXT MESSAGES PER MONTH. For only FOUR MORE DOLLARS. So there's that problem solved.
Now, I've also been having a problem using the applications that some companies have made for the Blackberry - Google, for example, and Facebook. Apparently the agent who initially put me on the data plan just put me on a generic smartphone data plan, at $25 per month for 500MB. According to the Rogers rep I just spoke with, my problem may come from the fact that I wasn't on a Blackberry data plan, so he switched me to one - for the same price, with the same amount of data transfer. I just rebooted my phone, and the difference is AMAZING. I just went through the application menu, and it automatically gave me Flickr, MSN, Google Talk, Yahoo!Messenger, and MySpace (those last two are coming off) and I just added Facebook. Plus, now I'll be able to have my email pushed to my phone inbox, just like a text message. I thought the thing was cool when I bought it - that was nothing, it's a REAL smartphone now! *dances* All of this added to the fact that they've always been so nice to me when I call, work with me to get a plan that fits my needs, and that I've had one dropped call since I switched to them, oh, four years ago? BEST. CELLPHONE COMPANY. EVAR.
Oh, and in unrelated news, I've been making pendants to add to
my Etsy store - they'll be up tomorrow, once the glue cures. There are knitting stitch markers up there now, but there will be jewelry soon. :)
