As you’ll recall, an interest of mine is the old demotic pub and music hall and variety culture, and I hope you saw the Beeb’s documentary programme recently about Mrs Mills.

Yorks CCC were County champions despite most of the individual records being held by members of the Surrey side; it was a 'home' Ashes year (England retained, 2 games to 1); and the Tabs had the honours, playing MCC to start the season w the Lord's varsity match.

Why do you ask?

(I'll check back when I no longer reek of wet wool & lanolin. Bloody weather. Bloody Met Office.)

Need a cricket-picker for a scene in which The Gentleman Cracksman lobs a ball straight at the Great Detective's head - setting Brighton 1896 (where it is to hoped the occasional exhibition match might have been played).
