Overcoming any diffidence to pose an intrusive question.

I make quite certain that many of you, by all accounts, have dreams that evolve into scenes in the stories you write.

But what I’d like to know, if you’ll indulge me, is this, and it’s not quite suited for a poll: Do you awake, even occasionally, let alone regularly, with a word or phrase or line ringing in your mind, or with a particular piece of music already playing in your consciousness?  If so, what are they, what sorts are they, and how often does this happen?  (I can say that this is a regular occurrence in my life, that it may be prose or poetry, and if it’s music it will be anything from Bach to Howells to Finzi to ‘Grioghal Cridhe’ or ‘The Black Bear’ - very rarely even jazz, and I think never pop.)  So: am I even madder than I suspect, or is this at all common?

writing, boring self-indulgence, poetry, music, information please, memes
