Nearly a year has passed since my last journal entry. The zombie herds have consumed the vast majority of the population, converting them like Mormons, against thier will. Our whole group has survived, save Sarrah and Ellen. Thier loss was tragic, but our minds conquered our hearts and our will to survive outweighed our love for

"STOP!" I yell back. "STAY RIGHT WHERE YOU ARE OR WE WILL SHOOT!"
He stopped dead in his tracks. Now that he is even closer we can see he is no older than twenty years. The others lower their weapons, but I keep mine honed on his skull.
"What is your name?", I ask.
He looks at me with a confused look, probably wondering why I am still locked on my target. His body was shaking slightly and I can tell he is fighting the deep tremors from within which are trying to materialize from the heightened level fear. I see the slightest glimpse of regret in his eyes. Perhaps he is reconsidering having run up to us so quickly. "Um, m-m-my name is D-d-david."
"What are you doing out here David?"
"The t-t-town I was w-w-working in was overrun and I was on my way back to m-m-my hometown to check on my family and friends."
If he were bitten he would have turned by now. I slowly lower my M4 to my side.
"So how did you end up right here hunkering behind a boulder?", Arash questions.
"Well, when the zombies first attacked, I stayed in Iowa for about three months trying to help fight off the epidemic. I was an intern with a ground breaking chemical technologies laboratory and we thought we may be able to create an antidote to reverse the zombie's disease. We were onto something, but our entire lab was overrun and we were forced to flee. I found my car safely stashed in my garage, so I started my trip back to Indiana."
"Wait a tick...", I interject, "...You are from Indiana? What town?"
"Crown Point"
"David? David Street? Is that really you?"
"Yeah...h-how do you know my name?" He squinted his eyes trying to glance through the crack in his glasses. "Ryan? Ryan Hainsworth?", he asked skeptically.
"Holy shit man...I haven't seen you since you left for Iowa. Your beard is very deceiving...you look so different."
I walked up to him still keeping my strong military stance and patted him on the back.
"Guys, this is David. We used to work together until he left to move up in the world. What are the odds of us running into each other like this? We have a new team member."
As we all walk back to the Jeep, I notice that J looks a little saddened that he didn't get to kill anything. There will be plenty of time for that later. Arash looks hungry for the fight, but he seems relieved that we have another man in our team. Arash always plays the odds. Arthur is eating a burrito.
"So, David...why didn't you continue to Crown Point?", Arthur mumbles as refried beans spill out of his mouth.
"Well, I was about a half hour into the drive when it started to get dark and then a heavy rain began. Instead of turning off on an exit like a normal sane person, my determination took over and I continued home. The only problem was the visibility was terrible. Then, without warning, I ran into a patch of black guys. I totaled my car and killed all four of them. I assume by the way their car was stopped on the side of the road, that they were attacked by zombies and were fleeing the car. When I tried to start their car, it wouldn't give. So I started walking down the expressway. I found a town to get supplies and food and bunk up for a couple of days. I also found a CB radio that I used to try to contact others, but was unsuccessful. I keep traveling toward Indiana, but slowly and cautiously, bunking in each town I find for a couple of days or so. Since then, I have run into no humans. I have only seen zombies, but I run when I see them. That's why I was so excited to see you guys."
David gives a sigh of relief and hunches into the back seat. "One other thing, I have this serum. I am not sure how effective it is yet, but if you guys get into trouble...I mean get bit by one of those things, we can try this."
"That could come in handy", J says with optimism.
"Let's hope we never have to use it", Arash adds as Arthur puts the Jeep in drive and steps on the gas.
