[This one is for anyone who has ever wondered if they are free and anyone who has suffered injustice for standing, sitting, walking, running, talking, or even lying down ;) ]
straight-line (streyt-lahyn)
n.
A line traced by a point traveling in a constant direction; a line of zero curvature.
I often walk in straight lines. I like to see how far they take me. Sometimes the earth limits my travels by adding comedy to my walk: a tree, a brook, a steep hill. Even with those barriers naturally in place, I feel free; my serenity lies in nature. I am often halted by another barrier; the man-made kind. Houses, fences, and gates block my progress. These things make me wonder if I am truely free.
free·dom (frdm)
n.
The condition of being at liberty of restraints.
Are any of us free? I know that due to progress we must be restrained, but why can I not walk in a straight line? I realize that something is terribly wrong when I walk on paved earth and am repremanded for it. When the government has to employ valuable resources to keep me from the pavement; pavement that has replaced grass and trees. There was no gate or fence to halt my progression. No sign visible to tell me no, and yet I have to pay a high price for the primal act of walking.
My point is simple one. Try walking in a straight line and see where it takes you. Do not stop until you reach a barrier. Then ask yourself if you are truely free.
I have suffered an injustice I intend to remedy in full. I will walk in a straight line again.
