"...they say it's your birthday....we're gonna have a good time..." yeah, whatever...I spent most of the day with a headache, cramps and other various unpleasant conditions, upon which I will not elaborate. not a very good birthday. had dinner at my moms though and the food was very good, as always, so that is a small consolation.
So, all that snow last week, we ended up with like 8", and every bit of it is gone! Couple of 50 degree days and bye bye snow!
I watched "Giant" on tv last night. It stars Rock Hudson, Elizabeth Taylor and James Dean, and a very young and weird looking Dennis Hopper. It's almost 3 1/2 hrs long. I had never seen it from start to finish before and I caught the beginning on CMT Channel and just stuck with it. It's kinda hard to believe this movie is 50 years old. I don't think it holds up well. Apparently, pregnancy is not something they showed on the big screen in 1956. In one scene Elizabeth Taylor's "Leslie" is telling Rock Hudson's "Bick", she is pregnant and in the next scene they are holding twins! Each time someone gets pregnant the kids just appear, no one is shown pregnant.
The blue wigs they used to show "Leslie's" aging were pretty bad too, but I remind myself it was probably pretty good for the time period. I was not impressed with James Dean's performance. Most of his lines were unintelligible even before his character, Jett Rink, descended into alcoholism.
I know the film is seen as an american classic and I respect it for what it is: an epic of the times. I just don't think time has been very kind to it.
