Wow, epic story. Thankyou for sticking with it and seeing it through to the end. It's so frustrating and disappointing to start a story and discover it never gets finished, so every installment was a bonus. Realistic and hopeful ending - even though there is sadness, there is potential for Ianto to re-connect with his mother, or at least the possibility that he will gain some understanding of her motivations. When he had no control over his childhood, this is something he does have control over, it's up to him how he chooses to proceed. Jack has been a treasure throughout this, and Ianto loves him for it.
thank you ;) i tried as hard as possible to finish it for the very reason that you've stated - it's disappointing when something isn't finished, especially if you become invested in it. I've read stories that haven't ended and been disappointed too and so didn't want that for my readers.
thank you for stating that the ending was realistic. I was aiming for that but thought that readers would want the more traditional happy ever after where all is forgiven and they skip off into the sunset. I preferred to leave the ending open to possibilities because, to me, it made more sense for ianto not to forgive carys immediately and i didn't want to show that all the problems were solved - there is still some residue left over from the trial and lloyd, but they are getting better
The points Ianto made were very valid. She did know what Lloyd was like, she did make Lloyd hate Ianto more by telling him he wasn't his father and she did leave him with someone who had no reason to love or care for him and every reason to despise and abuse him.
I loved that Ianto could look back and see just how dedicated Jack was to standing by him and being there for him every step of the way, no matter how difficult that must have been for him. Jack always was and always will be his rock, the one person in his life he knows he can count on, accepting him without judging. Jack is to Ianto what Ianto is to Jack. Perfect.
thank you :D given what Ianto has been through, I didn't think it would be realistic for him to be like you're my mum, i'll forgive you regardless. I think finding out he wasn't lloyd's son made him unable to forgive because he went through all that for nothing and he does see carys as causing it all. He sympathises with what she went through at the hands of lloyd because he's been there himself but it's because he's been there himself that he cabn't understand why she would leave him; especially after telling lloyd he wasn't his.
i think now that Ianto has had time to come to terms with everything, he's really beginning to understand what jack did for him and he does really really appreciate that and love him for it because he knows not everyone would have seen it through.
