"I Hate It When People Tell Me Mice Are People Too"

Just a quick update about the weekend just gone and the week to come. On Saturday I saw David Hoyle perform Love For All at The Contact Theatre, a piece that was bold, anarchic and just a little bit indulgent. I can forgive a performer as ostentatious as David Hoyle for lauding it over me though, given that I'm seeing someone uncommonly opinionated, self-assured and unashamed of himself both grace and deface the stage.

What I liked most was the way the set (a hodge-podge of banners, a giant love heart on the floor made out of glued together newspapers painted red and a little bed in the corner with more red love heart balloons) gradually disintegrated along with David's costume as the show progressed. My second favourite thing was when he did some interpretive dance about depression: his two poetic assistants waving black veils above their heads as punk music blared over the PA and David rolled and crawled around in the tattered remains of the love heart rug.

A nice change to the usual Valentine's fare, then. The rest of the weekend was spent in bars around Manchester until closing time. I managed to make it to Cup in the Northern Quarter on Sunday after two nights wear and tear to meet a couple of friends and go through the poems I'm submitting to Succour Magazine before this Friday comes. Attempt number two at getting into print (I won't hear back from Rialto for several weeks).

In other news, Los Zombinos, whilst not being scouted by Warner Brothers records or anything, have been enjoying some popularity of late. Since the Matt & Phreds gig we've been offered to have an amateur music video made and asked to play at the upcoming Ship Ahoy party in Islington Mill a fortnight from now. That gig might not happen because Brian is away in Spain and Robin has a cold at the moment, stopping us from rehearsing, which I'd really like to do before we were to play. Still, could happen!
